Six suspects shoot at two victims in New Era

Police believe suspects used AK 47 rifles during attack on two men in New Era.

Two men got away uninjured from an attack in Watt Road, New Era, on Saturday.

They were driving a black Toyota Fortuner and were on their way from Third Street, in Bakerton, at 5pm, to load stock at a warehouse in New Era.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says the driver of the vehicle noticed a gold Volvo following them and claims he tried to make way for the vehicle to pass.

The driver of the Volvo allegedly passed their vehicle, but then stopped in front of the Fortuner.

Ramphora says four armed attackers allegedly approached the two victims and started shooting at them.

“The two victims claim they also noticed a green Toyota Fortuner stopped behind them and saw two armed men running towards them.

“These two attackers also started shooting at the victims,” says Ramphora.

During the attack, one of the victims managed to put their vehicle in reverse in an attempt to escape.

While reversing the vehicle, the victims claim they bumped one of the suspects, but didn’t stop until they reached Industrial Road.

They drove to a nearby business where they managed to find safety and called the police.

“It is believed the firearms used in the attack were AK 47 rifles,” says Ramphora.

An attempted murder case was opened at the Springs Police Station.
