Woman grabs firearm from robber

A Selcourt resident was surprised when two robbers forced open her door in Dandazi Street last Thursday.

When she heard a knock at the door, she allegedly thought it was her husband.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, says one of the robbers was armed with a firearm and pointed it at the woman.

The robbers demanded cash and ordered the woman to take them to the main house.

“While outside, the woman grabbed the firearm and wrestled with the one robber until the firearm fell to the ground,” says Ramphora.

The two robbers ran away and the woman received help from the neighbours.

Ramphora says the robbers took two cellphones and damaged the sliding door to the room.

A case of house robbery was opened at the police station and the police are investigating.
