E-books now available from libraries

The days of walking into a library to borrow a book are now a thing of the past for Ekurhuleni library users.

Themba Gadebe, spokesman for the Ekurhuleni Metro, says users can now use advanced technology to borrow books online.

An e-book is an electronic version of a printed book which can be borrowed by library users electronically for a period of two weeks.

The system will automatically retrieve it thereafter for other users to access it.

The e-book is available to all registered library users and can be downloaded for free by punching in the library membership number after typing in the link https://gauteng.lib.overdrive.com

“The metro’s ultimate purpose for this initiative is to encourage the culture of reading amongst our citizens and to provide convenient access to books at any given time without walking into the library,” says Gadebe.

“Plans are in place to roll out an educational awareness campaign across the metro to assist library users and librarians to be familiar with using the online site,” he explains..
