Vehicle hijacked by two armed suspects

A 30-year-old man's white Renault was hijacked in Springs Extension on Wednesday.

He stopped in front of his house waiting for the remote gate to open, when a white single cab bakkie with three occupants stopped behind him.

According to Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, two of the three men got out of the bakkie and were armed with firearms.

“The suspects pointed their guns at the man and one suspect got into the vehicle with him and drove off,” he says.

The second suspect went back to the bakkie and followed the Renault towards the N17 Informal Settlement, where they dropped off the man.

The suspects took the man’s vehicle, two tablets, computer and his ID which was in the vehicle and drove off, leaving the man stranded.

Ramphora says the man was helped by two EMPD officers who took him to the police station to open a hijacking case.
