Residents hopeful for change

Strubenvale residents queued at the voting station at Strubenvale Primary School to cast their votes on Wednesday.

However, they say it wasn’t for long.

Shawn Jacobs (24) says when he was waiting in the queue, a man came out of the voting station and warned them to check if both ballot papers has been stamped.

“The man claimed one of his papers wasn’t stamped and therefore his vote is invalid.

I am sure that everybody standing in the queue double-checked the ballot papers before making their marks, as we were not aware that it needed to be stamped,” he says.

Karen Smit (25) says: “We exercised our electoral rights.”

For voter Johan Louw (64), to vote was the right thing to do.

“I vote for a change in municipal services as the street lights don’t always work and the roads are in a terrible condition,” he says.

Another voter Elrika Manser (38) says she hopes the municipal election will make a difference in the services rendered by the municipality.
