Bakerton residents make their mark

On Wednesday, several Springs residents voted to make a difference in the municipal election.

They made their marks on the two ballot papers, voting for their ward councillor and for the party that will represent them in council.

The voting station in Bakerton was a beehive of activity from 5am.

Ward councillor Ramesh Sheodin said this was an important municipal election.

“The elections can make a change in municipal services and eliminate corruption,” he said.

Bakerton resident Maria Mondlane was adamant that the community needs a change in the municipality.

Her friend Trudy Mazibuko agreed and said that is exactly why she voted: “To make the change possible.”

Another voter, Iswala Dayabhai (56) said every vote will see a more equitable council that can make a difference.

“The election will change everything in the community,” said Julia Thibela.

To be able to assist her party at the voting station on Wednesday, she cast her special vote on Monday.

She added a lot had been done in the community already and the ruling party should think about what is best for the community.
