Taxi collision leaves children injured

Seventeen children, believed to be between nine and 15 years old, sustained minor injuries in Springs Road towards Daveyton on Wednesday.

The driver allegedly lost control of the taxi and crashed into a tree.

ER24 paramedics and other emergency services arrived at the scene at approximately 4.30pm where they found all the children and the driver of the taxi, sitting on the grass near the taxi.

ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak says it is believed the children climbed out of the taxi shortly after the accident.

“They were treated for minor scrapes and bruises before being transported to a nearby hospital for treatment,” he says.

The taxi driver was not injured.

Vermaak said it is believed the children were on their way home after taking part in a soccer match.

The exact cause of the incident is not yet known.
