Making their mark for change

No queues were formed at Welgedacht Primary School's voting station on Wednesday.

According to SAPS members on duty at the voting station, everything was quiet and they experienced no problems.

DA councillor Dean Stone visited the voting station for a few minutes and said people underestimate the power of voting.

He believes people who don’t vote might have been hurt by the party they voted for previously and chose not to vote.

“The ruling municipal party should stick to their promises and deliver,” he said.

EFF party agent Phindile Nkosi (22) said she was only there to assist people when they wanted to check the list to see if they were registered.

Bongani Shembe (45) and Thobani Mthembu (26) were manning the ANC table outside the school.

Bongani said he was the voting district coordinator for the ANC and his duty was to see that everything ran smoothly.

“People were seen coming and going throughout the day without any problems,” he said.

Welgedacht resident Litha Thobejane (40) said she was proud to make a mark on the ballot papers.

“Maybe my vote will make a difference in the municipal elections,” she said.

Mariaan Joubert (52) and her husband Strijdom Joubert (54) said everything went well and they were helped in no time.

“Our votes will hopefully make a difference in the municipal election,” said Mariaan.
