Four-year sentence for sex offender

A 42-year-old man was sentenced to four years imprisonment in the Springs Regional Court last Thursday.

Captain Johannes Ramphora, spokesman for the Springs police, says the accused was sentenced to four years imprisonment in terms of the sexual assault act.

He was sentenced to two years imprisonment on count one and to two years in prison on count two in terms of Act 51 of 1977.

Sentence one will run concurrently with the sentence in count two.

Ramphora says this comes after the accused sexually assaulted two minors between 2013 and 2015.

The court ordered the accused’s name to be added to the National Register for sex offenders in terms of Act 38 of 2005 and in Part B of the national Child Register Act 60 of 2000.

It was also ruled that the accused is unsuitable to work with children.

He will be spending his four year imprisonment at Modderbee Prison.
