Metro speaks refuse in Strubenvale

Following numerous reports about poor refuse removal services in Strubenvale and other areas around Springs, the metro has given the following comment.

Ekurhuleni Metro spokesman, Themba Gadebe, says the Ekurhuleni Waste Management Services is currently experiencing breakdowns of their vehicles.

“This results in backlogs on door-to-door refuse collection services,” says Gadebe.

“As we cannot predict the breakdowns of the vehicles, it is not possible to communicate to the residents that refuse will not be removed.”

In the instance that residents feel they do not get the required assistance through the call centre number, Gadebe says the Ekurhuleni Waste Management offices of Springs can be contacted on 011 999 8497 or 011 999 8425.

“An update on when services will take place will be given,” adds Gadebe.

He also adds that once the call centre is contacted, a reference number must be given to the complainant.

“A client should ask for a reference number if none is given,” says Gadebe.

Gadebe says the Ekurhuleni Springs Waste Management tries to render a service within a week’s time.

“Refuse is, therefore, sometimes also removed on a Saturday,” he adds.
