Community centre gives thanks

Mirriam Ntsele, owner of Thandabantu Community Centre in Geduld, was quite emotional over the donations the centre received as part of Mandela Day on Saturday.

“We have received chicken, groceries, sweets, bread and salads, and the children enjoyed the jumping castle,” she says.

The 37 packets of fish and chips that was delivered from Ocean Basket was another welcome donation.

Mirriam is very happy and grateful for every business or individual’s donation.

“Our goal has always been to give decent food to people and children on a regular basis, but the support they received for Mandela Day was overwhelming,” she says.

She says the 67 Minutes for Mandela is about giving and caring.

The idea to give 67 minutes to the needy was initiated on the late president Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday on his birthday in 2009.

“It is a time to serve,” says Mirriam, something she has been doing for most of her life.

She loves people and therefore she would like to thank Bob Billies, the two bakeries who donated several loaves of bread, the organisations who gave the sweets and the ingredients to make several salads.

Mirriam says when people open their hearts to serve others we will all serve others, not only for the 67 Minutes, but always, as a good deed is much needed all over the world.
