Barking dogs are the owner’s responsibility

The metro has responded to a Springs resident's report about the continuous barking of dogs during the night.

Ekurhuleni spokesman Themba Gadebe says animal noise is governed in terms of the noise control regulations – Gauteng (Government Notice 5479 of 20 August 1999).

In terms of Regulation 9 of the mentioned regulations, the owner of an animal has the responsibility to ensure that an animal under his or her control doesn’t create a noise nuisance.

Noise nuisance means any sound which disturbs or impairs or may disturb or impair the convenience or peace of any person.

“Problems can be reported to the Health Department for investigation and action in terms of the regulations,” says Gadebe.
