The Springs police has opened an inquest on a fire that caused the death of Tshipo Mkwakanazi (26) in a shack in Ekutuleni Street, Everest Informal Settlement on Sunday.
A neighbour was awaken by a loud bang at 1.22am and noticed other neighbours trying to extinguish the fire of a burning shack.
When the SAPS arrived at the scene they found Mkakanazi’s body underneath the rubble.
Paramedics declared the man dead at the scene.
“The cause of the fire is unknown,” says Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman.
