A new manager for community hospital

Life Springs Parkland Hospital has appointed a new hospital manager.

Tertia Nieuwoudt commenced her duty as hospital manager on July 1.

Tertia is a qualified medical doctor who completed her medical degree through the University of Pretoria.

“I have been staying in Heidelberg since 2003 and have also worked as a medical superintendent in Heidelberg,” says Tertia.

“I have previously been a hospital manager for 10 years within the private sector.”

Tertia attributes her pursuit of the medical profession to her love and passion for people.

“I love dealing with the nature of human beings,” she says, “so it is a pleasure to be able to do that while earning a living.”

Tertia is also very passionate about leadership and using her expertise, experience and passion to provide opportunities and guidance to future leaders.

This is why she says she has made the natural progression from practising medicine to being in management.

“It has been about natural growth and opportunities that have presented themselves to me,” she adds.

“Management is about leadership and through this position I am able to influence change on a larger scale.”

“The standards I set as a medical practitioner are the same standards that can be applied in my role as manager.”

Tertia says her goal is to further improve on the excellent standard which has been set by the hospital, while best serving the community.

“I just want to see more growth and meet the community’s expectations of growth and added quality service.

“After all, we are here to service the community.”

Tertia adds that she would like to apply her leadership and management experience to try tackle key issues.

“I want to do this in the context of problems currently being faced withing the sector,” she says.

“This would include ways in which to deal with the shortage of doctors and nurses.”

On Springs’ reception to her recent appointment, Tertia says she has been warmly received and highlights the friendliness and kindness from Springsites.

“The people here are down-to-earth and really care for each other,” she says.

“Also, the doctors here are amazing and they really care about their patients and the community.”

Tertia attributes her success in her chosen field to her desire to make a difference in society.

“I want to make life better whether it is through simple things such as kindness or more complex matters such as those of leadership,” she says.

“In the end it is about creating leaders. That is what the world needs more of.”
