Police bust man (24) with abalone and drugs in Springs

A 24-year-old man was arrested at around 12.30pm on Thursday afternoon, following a drug bust at a store in Casseldale.

The bust was made by the SAPS Benoni K9 Unit after the unit received an anonymous tip-off from a community member, about a store selling drugs in the area.

“The police were informed and when they proceeded to the address, they found a 24-year-old suspect.

“Upon searching the premises our members recovered 316 bags of dagga, 130 packets of illegal cigarettes and five South African abalone (a protected species in the country).

“The suspect was taken to the Springs Police Station where he will remain until he is formally charged with possession of drugs, illegal cigarettes and South African abalone,” says police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora.

The value of the goods is unknown but further investigation is being conducted.

It is not yet known when the suspect will appear in court.
