Pavement cracked by service delivery vehicle

Casseldale resident, Ivan Pleho (63), says three months ago, a metro service delivery vehicle drove onto the pavement of the sidewalk in front of his property and damaged it, leaving it cracked and broken.

“Every time the metro workers come with their service delivery trucks, they drive onto this sidewalk,” he says.

“This time, that caused serious damage and has left the pavement looking like this.”

Ivan says the main drainage system runs directly under the sidewalk paving, making it predisposed to damage should a heavy load be positioned on it.

“I don’t understand how the metro workers, knowing that there is a drainage system that runs under this pavement, would drive a heavy vehicle onto it,” he says, “What would happen if the whole pavement caved in?”

Ivan adds that he reported the matter to the metro shortly after the incident, but has not received any assistance since then.

“When I called them to report the matter, I was told that there was no one in the area at the time who could assist with my complaint,’ he says.

“This was approximately three months ago.”

Ivan says he is confused as to how metro workers can frequent the area to conduct other service delivery activities, but fail to identify other problems that are prevalent in the community.

“They come here to do one thing, and want to be called to fix something that they could have attended to upon first identifying it on site,” he adds.

“It is called taking initiative.”

“For every service delivery failure, it is money that we as taxpayers waste and that is not fair.”

Questions have been sent to the metro for comment.
