Mayoral spokesman, Zweli Dlamini, says the work that was supposed to be executed by the metro was to combine the domestic feed water-line with and unmetred fire connection- which took longer than expected.

“The metro’s dissatisfaction was well communicated to the contractor and contractual penalties will be applied accordingly,” he says.

The water leak is said to be eliminated and the consolidation of the feed has been completed.

“The metro believes in building strong partnerships with communities and always encourages the community to report all service delivery issues,” says Dlamini.

Dlamini also adds that the metro has taken measures to monitor and resolve such matters.

“We recently, amongst other things, appointed water ambassadors with the primary aim of assisting in the identification of these kinds of problems, on a temporary basis,” he says.
