Outside buildings go up in flames

A Bakerton family watched from a distance as a section of their house in Foxglove Street burned down on Monday night.

Two EMPD officers Louis Els and Louwtjie du Toit responded to a call of a burning house at 6pm.

When they arrived they found that the outside rooms and garage were on fire.

Els says community members were trying to assist the family by using buckets of water and connected hosepipes to put out the fire, but they failed.

A fire truck from the Springs Fire Station arrived shortly after the fire was reported to take over the situation.

“When we left at 6.45pm, the fire trucks were still on the scene,” says Els.

No injuries was sustained and the cause of fire is still unknown.

An investigation will be conducted by relevant authorities, including the Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Services and the police, to determine the cause of the blaze.
