The man had to stop at 6pm to change a tyre on his white VW Jetta when a blue VW Golf with five unknown suspects stopped next to him.
Springs police spokesman, Capt Johannes Ramphora says two of the suspects, armed with firearms, approached the man and informed him it was a hijacking.
The suspects pointed their firearms at the man and pushed him to one side, got into his vehicle and drove off.
Ramphora says the Golf followed the hijacked vehicle.
The Jetta was recovered at Kwazenzele informal settlement on the same day.
“The victim’s cellphone and R500 cash were in the car,” says Ramphora.
