SRV face-lift near completion

The refurbishment of the Springs Retirement Village (SRV) has come to an end and residents can finally enjoy their beautiful surroundings.

The R20-million set aside by the Methodist Homes for the Aged (MHA), who took over the SRV in 2014, was put to full use.

Construction started in March 2015, and more cottages were built at the back of the premises, the frail care and mid-frail care units, where residents can enjoy 24/7 medical care, were upgraded as well as new lodging cottages.

There is also a renovated clubhouse which still needs to be named.

There are currently 40 cottages with 16 people living in the lodging cottages.

Frail-care sister Linda Botha says these lodgers can still take care of themselves to a certain extent, but are close to frail care when needed.

“They can also enjoy a meal once a day at the dining room, prepared by our kitchen staff,” she says.

Full-time site manager, Theresa Fry is happy to announce that the new coffee shop called Route 24 is also part of the face-lift.

“Residents will be able to entertain their guests and the staff will now also enjoy their lunch hour at the coffee shop,” she says.

She is excited and cannot wait to move into the new offices at the administration block, which is near completion.

The new resident-friendly SRV received an ‘Eden Alternative’ face-lift and residents are now allowed to keep animals.

SRV is also proud to announce the names of their two new four-legged residents, the basset hounds called Bella and Cuddles.
