Slow turnaround time for Metro in Strubenvale

After a week of waiting for the refuse to be collected by the Ekurhuleni Metro, Strubenvale residents, Johan Perkins (71), says that the metro eventually collected the refuse.

“The refuse was supposed to be collected last week Tuesday already,” says Johan.

Johan, who lives on Athlone Road does, however, explain that he believes that the metro’s turn-around time for service delivery is still unsatisfactory.

“It has taken the metro a week to collect refuse which could have been collected last week when the refuse down the road was removed,” he says.

“All the refuse in Grootvlei was collected but they failed to take ours, which is just down the road.”

Johan explains that, in the instance of refuse removal delays, he has to make sure that his and his neighbour’s refuse is taken in and out on a daily basis, until such time the metro collects.

“My neighbour is an 86-year-old man who hardly has the energy to be working around the metro’s clock by taking his refuse in and out, in hopes that the refuse will be collected.”

Johan’s neighbour, Fred Durrheim, says that his biggest concern about the delay in refuse removal services is the litter that results from passersby who dig in the bins.

“They pass here and open our refuse bags and bins, then just leave a mess for someone else to clean up,” he says, “it is not fair for us to have such dirty surroundings.

Although the metro eventually came on the same Wednesday afternoon, Johan believes that the metro should be punctual in service delivery and respect the ratepayers.

“The metro must do what it gets paid for,” he says.

Questions have been sent to the metro for feedback.
