More than 10 people injured in Welgedacht accident
An accident in Welgedacht Road, Welgedacht caused a heavy traffic pile-up on Tuesday afternoon.
Three vehicles were damaged during the incident that occurred at 4.45pm.
According to Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora, one of the vehicles was a police vehicle which was about to turn right into First Avenue, when a taxi crashed into it, causing it to swerve in front of an oncoming white Nissan bakkie.
The two policemen sustained minor injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the driver of the bakkie sustained a broken leg and was also transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Quite a few of the passengers in the taxi sustained minor injuries and were also transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, however, the driver of the Nissan narrowly escaped the ordeal.
Ramphora says they are not sure why the taxi driver collided with the stationary police vehicle, but the case is being investigated.
The road was cleared for traffic by the EMPD at about 8pm.
