Proud moment for Daggafontein Epilepsy

The Daggafontein Epilepsy Centre held their annual 'Tekkie Tax' day on Friday.

The residents started practising a few days beforehand to have the most fun on their perfect day.

They practiced walking with an egg in a spoon, jumping in bags and dancing like there’s no tomorrow.

The staff at the centre made sure to keep the excitement level high as residents were cheered on as they raced for first, second and third place.

Students from the Empilweni Education Centre who are busy with their practicals in nursing, also helped with the arrangements and taking care of the residents.

Outside, another few residents were assigned the task of braai masters, who proudly took to this task to prepare food for the residents.

Audrey Mtimkulu, social worker and acting centre manager, was extremely proud of one particular resident on the day, Oriana Magida.

Oriana was admitted at the centre in November, wheelchair bound and in adult diapers due to a stroke she suffered.

“She couldn’t feed herself or do anything for that matter,” says Audrey, “and today, here she is, standing up and dancing, on her own.”

Audrey states that this was made possible through continuous stimulation at the centre.
