Broken flood lights pose danger to pedestrians in Hill Park

The flood lights in Hill Park in Strakosch Circle, Petersfield, have been out of order for weeks.

According to Petersfield resident Ds Jan Lourens, he has been struggling to have the lights restored.

He says it is a huge security problem for pedestrians at night.

There are six such lights in each of the two clusters and if the lights of both clusters are burning the park is lit up.

“There are many people walking across the park on their way to work and back,” says Lourens.

Residents from Geduld Epilepsy Centre also walk across the park to nearby shops.

Lourens says the church members park their vehicles there at night when they attend evening activities at the church.

“It gives them peace of mind when the lights burn, but now they cannot see any suspicious-looking person or activities due to the lights not working,” he says.

Although he couldn’t confirm any recent crime at the park, he did mention that they contact the police or the Petersfield CPF to report such criminal activities if they do occur.

He has reported the matter to several people at the metro, however, he did not report the faulty flood lights to the metro call centre to get a reference number.

No comment had been received from the metro at the time of going to print.
