EMPD nab car thief

An alleged thief was nabbed by EMPD members on the corner of Tonk Meter Way and Coaton Avenue, Selection Park, within minutes after he stole a car on Monday.

A woman exited her house in Selection Park around 5pm and walked towards the washing line to remove her dry laundry.

To her surprise, with her husband in the house, she noticed her husband’s vehicle being driven out of the yard by a stranger.

She quickly alerted her husband and a relative was called and the search for the vehicle commenced.

Fortunately, as the victims were driving around in search of their stolen white Mazda sedan, the EMPD First Responder Unit members were on patrol in the area and started to aid in the search.

The vehicle was spotted at the corner of Tonk Meter Way and Coaton Avenue and was closed in and the lone suspect arrested.

The 45-year-old man, who claimed he resides in Soweto, was charged at Springs Police Station with possession of a stolen vehicle.

He is expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (May 18).
