Church day fun

The Dutch Reformed church in Selcourt gathered on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning for its annual church bazaar.

The weekend saw the church gather for what was fun family days that aimed to unite the community, raise funds, and bring about awareness of the church.

The myriad of activities included games for children; various stalls; food; live music and an ambiance of warmth, love and laughter.

“The aim of this initiative is to raise funds for the church and the various charities and causes we support,” explains Neils van Oort, the co-coordinator of the event.

He further explains that the church also uses the funds that are raised at the event to give to the less fortunate and those of lower-income families within the church and community at large.

“The focus is not only for the church to have funds,” says van Oort, “but for the benefit of all those in the community who are from disadvantaged backgrounds and circumstances to benefit.”

Furthermore, Neils elaborates on the church’s passion to unite the community by such initiatives and to allow community members to feel welcome at the church as well and as community members in general.

“We want everyone to come together and feel welcomed,” says an enthusiastic van Oort, “people must know that they are welcome – we embrace diversity here.”

Dick van der Westhuizen, the main organiser of the event, was proud of the turn-out and acknowledged the myriad of activities and support from corporate companies in making the event a success.

“We have a variety of stalls, games such as jumping castles and an electrical bull to name a few,” he says, “we also have great support from the motor companies around Springs, which shows that the event is a collective effort by all.”
