Geduld dimmed down

Willem (51) and Kathleen (50) de Bruyn, from Geduld, are tired of trying to have the broken streetlights on Sixth Avenue repaired.

The couple says the broken lights were reported to the Ekurhuleni Metro on March 16.

“They gave me a reference number, then they told me that I should wait five working days and our matter would be resolved,” says Kathleen.

She explains that she called the metro again on April 6, following their failure to repair the lights within the given time.

“I spoke to the head of the department personally, and he assured me that the streetlights outside our home and up the road would be working,” explains Kathleen.

It is almost a month since the second complaint was lodged, but the aggrieved couple still has no light outside their home.

“It becomes very dark at night, to the point where we cannot even go outside,” Kathleen says.

She adds that, when she asks the municipal workers when they are planning to attend to the broken streetlights, the response is indifferent and the workers do not seem to show any concern about the situation.

“The metro needs to pick up its act,” says an angry Willem.

The Advertiser is awaiting a response from the metro with regard to the matter.
