Metro serves notices to companies

Following the report about the oil leakage in New Era on April 28, the Ekurhuleni Metro has provided feedback.

The metro assures the community that it has since visited the premises of Hudson and Knight and Hypersonic Engineering, following complaints about the oil leakage that was said to be approximately 300m on the left, before the Airfield circle, when travelling from the Springs Civic Centre, to Brakpan.

Themba Gadebe, Ekurhuleni spokesman, says that a water quality inspector visited both premises and served notices to the respective companies.

“Notices were given to the two companies and instructions to clean the water channels,” says Gadebe.

He adds that the Metro will investigate further with regards to identifying the exact source of the spillage and the appropriate correctional measures will be taken.

“A constitutional notice will be served to the perpetrators,” says Gadebe, “which will require the prevention of the cause and the clearing of all the pollution that has occurred.”
