Residents unite at cemetery

There was a hive of people at the Geduld cemetery to assist AfriForum Springs branch with their clean-up project on Saturday.

Their aim was to clean the graves and remove the debris.

Children also accompanied their parents and tried to make a success of the day.

Twins Marcel and Francois Swart (15) decided to join their father Cornel Swart and say their help will make a difference.

Henry Harber from Wild Wild Guardians and his family also came to lend a hand.

Richardt Lubbe from AfriForum, says the day was a huge success and there were many children who also helped their parents with the clean-up project.

He found it interesting that workers from the Ekurhuleni Metro also arrived and helped AfriForum members to clean-up the place.

“We would like to thank everyone for their help,” he says.

Black refuse bags were given to the volunteers who moved around the cemetery to pick up all the litter.

Richardt says there was a “reward” at the end of the day in the form of boerewors rolls.

Even the metro workers enjoyed the food provided by AfriForum Springs members.

“Our future plans are to fix the memorial walls and we would like people who have an interest in the memorial walls, to contact us,” says Richardt.

AfriForum will fix the stones that are damaged free of charge.

Due to the nature of the damages done to the memorial wall AfriForum members could not fix the entire wall, but he urges people to contact him on 079 511 0072.

“This will enable us to fix the memorial wall where needed,” adds Richardt.
