Daniel en route to Los Angeles

Daniel Ourique (14) recently won the overall trophy at the South African Championships of Performing Arts held in Rustenburg, North West Province.

He competed in 10 dance divisions and won six gold, three silver and bronze medals.

His mother Maria Ourique says Daniel now qualifies to compete in the World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles in the United States of America in June.

This Persfield Extension resident is a Grade Nine learner from Hoërskool Hugenote and loves dancing.

His mother says he used to tap his foot to the sound of music since he was little and now that the bug has bitten there is no stopping him.

The competition is part of the World Association of Talent, Modelling and Entertainment and is also referred to as the Olympics of Performing Arts.

Daniel received medals in the following solo dance styles: cha-cha, jive, contemporary, jazz, freestyle, musical character and ethnic/folkloric, samba, hip-hop and in the open style.

A complete opposite way of relaxing for this teenager is paintball; otherwise his life is all about music and dancing.

“I also enjoy playing cricket at school,” says Daniel.

Maria says she is extremely proud of Daniel and she will accompany her son to the championships in Los Angeles in June.
