School experiences another blocked drain

Blocked drains are still a major problem in Springs continuously causing headaches for the people involved.

The Addie reported on several blocked drains in June last year (Almost 300 school girls use three toilets), but the problem persists.

The maintenance manager at Veritas College, Dave Marshall, reported then that the problem caused havoc at the school when all the girls toilets were blocked and unusable.

Prevention is better than cure and when he noticed another blocked drain he reported it to the Ekurhuleni Metro on March 15, in fear of it causing yet another major problem.

Since then Marshall has reported the blocked drain repeatedly and has been given two new reference numbers since his initial report.

Yet to date, the metro still has not managed to fix the blocked drain.

Marshall claims there were metro workers at the school last week, but he says the workers claim the main drain at the bottom of the school premises is blocked and that they will have to return to unblock it.

Workers from the municipality arrived again on Friday, but left again without solving the problem.

On Monday, he reported to the Addie, that although the children are currently on holiday, the problem persists.

“The metro workers were due to arrive later on Monday, but they did not,” says Marshall.

No comment was received from the metro at the time of publishing.
