Police foil robbery on routine patrol

Three suspects, in their 20s, were taken into custody after an attempted house robbery on Wednesday.

Just before 11am, three suspects attempted to rob a house in Aaronskelk Street, Edelweiss and were disturbed when the police drove past.

Springs police spokesman, Capt Johannes Ramphora, says that when the suspects noticed the police, they jumped into a blue Toyota Yaris and fled the scene.

However, they were chased by the police and stopped in Finch Road.

The police searched the vehicle and found a pick, hammer, pliers and a crowbar in the boot of the car.

“The suspects couldn’t explain what the purpose of the tools was,” says Ramphora.

The three suspects, aged 25, 28 and 29 years, respectively, were arrested and taken to the police station.

The trio will appear in court on Friday.
