This is the first phase of maintenance work done by the contractors.
According to the contract foreman, Walter Mavundla, they replace the electrical cables on a daily basis at a pace of 2km at a time.
He claims the cables were stolen and they have been contracted to replace them.
As soon as they are done with replacing the cables in Welgedacht Road, they will start with the second phase of their contract and also replace all the broken and missing light bulbs on the lamp posts.
Mavundla says when the two phases are complete they will check all the electrical points and reconnect the electricity to give the community light at night while driving down this road.
No comment was received from the metro at the time of going to print.
