SAPS Crime Prevention arrest two men

Springs SAPS Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) members arrested two men during a routine patrol in the Springs CBD on Tuesday.

One suspect was arrested for possession of drugs while the driver of a blue BMW was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

CPU members were conducting routine patrols at 11.45am in Fourth Street, when they noticed a suspicious-looking blue BMW with two occupants driving behind them.

Springs police spokesman, Capt Johannes Ramphora, says the driver overtook the police vehicle, reduced speed and stopped at the side of the road.

The police members watched the suspicious-looking suspects from a distance.

“SAPS members believe the passenger of the vehicle intended to sell drugs to two pedestrians at the time,” says Ramphora.

When they stopped and searched the suspects, they found three small packets of rocks in one of the suspect’s possession.

Upon searching the driver of the BMW, they found an unlicensed firearm and six rounds of live ammunition in his possession.

The men, aged between 25 and 29 years old, were arrested and taken to the Springs Police Station.

Ramphora says any illegal activities will not be tolerated and police patrols are done in the area regularly.

The value of the drugs is approximately R300.

The suspects will appear in the Springs Regional Court soon.
