Mysterious death of unknown, naked man

The body of an unknown man was found in an open field next to Pansy Road, between Welgedacht Agricultural Holdings and the N12 freeway on Saturday.

Two friends were driving in the direction of Etwatwa at about 7pm, when their vehicle broke down just before the N12.

According to Springs police spokesman, Capt Johannes Ramphora, the duo got out of the vehicle and opened the bonnet to establish what the problem was, when two unknown suspects approached them, one armed with a firearm.

Both friends ran away, but the two suspects caught one of them and brought him back to the vehicle, where they ordered him to undress himself.

“Standing naked in front of the two suspects, they ordered him to run and join his friend who disappeared in the field,” says Ramphora.

Without hesitation, he ran into the open field and came across his friend and an injured man, both naked.

The injured man allegedly asked the two friends to help him.

The two friends claim they offered to phone the police for assistance, but said they had to go to Etwatwa first to get a water pipe for the vehicle and some clothing.

When the two naked friends arrived in Etwatwa, they phoned the police.

Ramphora says when the duo returned to their vehicle, the police asked them to point out where they had found the injured man, but the man was nowhere to be found.

Instead the police found the naked body of an unknown man next to Pansy Road.

The man was allegedly hit by a vehicle and was already dead when the police found him.

“We suspect the deceased tried to get help from a passing motorist, when he was hit by a vehicle that didn’t stop at the scene,” says Ramphora.

The police are currently investigating a case of murder.

Ramphora urge any witnesses to come forward to assist the police in their investigation.
