Nokuthula top ENEI student

Best wishes for the future is exactly what the 26 nurses from Esda Nursing Education Institution (ENEI) needed during their graduation ceremony on Wednesday.

They finally completed the requirements of their auxiliary nursing certificates and received their certificates during a graduation ceremony held at their new hall, which was inaugurated on Tuesday.

Principal Yolanda Els congratulated the class of 2015 and said “your graduation proves all of your hard work and determination”.

She added that the students should remember their core values of caring, integrity, diversity and excellence, as these values are vital components in the development of a nurse.

Maureen Wright, who started the school in 1980, was a matron at the Esda Old Age Home at the time.

Although all the students worked hard, it wasn’t always easy, so obtaining a theoretical and practical mark of 79% is quite an achievement.

Nokuthula Motha was crowned the top student and received distinctions in theory and clinical practical and passed with honours, while Mapule Nhlapo also passed with honours.

Yolanda said to pass with honours is when the average between the theory and practical is 75% and above. Nine of the students obtained distinctions in clinical practical.

The jubilation felt by the students’ families over their loved ones’ achievements was overwhelming.

Once again the Esda choir bid the graduates farewell with a few appropriate songs.

Each nurse received a candle during the lamp ceremony and they all read the nurse’s pledge out loud.

The principal said they should not be content with what they have, but strive to excel in their field of interest.

“Never lose sight of the privilege that you are being given, as patients are placing their trust and often their lives in your hands,” said Yolanda.

Yolanda blessed the nurses with the following words: “May the Lord go with you and may you work hand in hand with the great physician Jesus and may He bless you”.
