Metro clears blocked drain

It took the Ekurhuleni Metro four days to respond to a complaint about overflowing drain complaint in Arniston Road, Selection Park.

Regina Mayimela (39) is not impressed with the metro for taking so long to react the complaint that was made on March 3.

“The workers only arrived on Tuesday to clear the blocked drain,” she says.

Although the blocked drain has been fixed, rain is preventing the metro workers from cleaning the mess on the Mayimela’s property.

The drain is on metro property and the sewage was running into her yard.

Mayimela says the sewage mess left a terrible stench and prevented her four-year-old son, Maimela Mayimela, from playing outside.

Metro spokesman Themba Gadebe claims it took four days for the complaint to reach the responsible department, but no reason was given to why this happened.

Metro workers only arrived on Tuesday to clear the blocked drain.

“The blockage came from Rezenda Street, around the corner from Arniston Road, therefore, it took three days for the workers to open the drain,” he says.

Rain has prevented the metro workers from cleaning the mess, left behind on Mayimela’s property, but they plan on cleaning the area as soon as it has dried out.
