Fallen tree poses a danger to motorists

The tree that fell over in Tyrell Road, Selection Park, has still not been removed, says resident Dennis Geldenhuys.

Dennis is concerned about the safety of motorists who are not aware of the tree lying partially in the road.

“The residents who live on the street are aware of the tree but my concern is that a motorist travelling at night-time might not see it, and that is dangerous,” says Dennis.

The tree has been lying on the road since February 4 when strong winds broke it in half.

Dennis has reported the problem to the Ekurhuleni Metro but nobody has come to collect the tree, he says.

“Fallen trees that were not a danger to motorists have been collected since the strong winds hit but not the one in front of my house,” claims Dennis.

Dennis says the tree is too heavy for one person to move and he is urgently seeking assistance from the metro.

He would also like the metro to trim the trees, as he feels that if another bad storm strikes, it could do damage to his fence and his neighbours’ fence.

The metro is yet to respond to previous requests for comment regarding the tree and when it will be removed.
