Water meter problems for resident

Anna-Marie van Wyk (62), a local Welgedacht resident, feels urgent assistance from Ekurhuleni Metro is required regarding her water meter.

Anna-Marie, a pensioner, says she got the shock of her life when she received her water bill and the amount exceeded R3 000.

“I use water sparingly and I am hardly at home for the bill to reach such an outrageous amount,” says Anna- Marie.

Anna-Marie claims her water bill was half of what it is now before the new meter was installed.

“Someone from the metro needs to come and fix this problem. I am having difficultly sleeping because of the stress this has caused me,” she says.

Anna-Marie, who is also a widow, says it is impossible for her to use over R3 000 worth of water in a month.

“Not even when my husband was alive did we use so much water,” says Anna-Marie.

Anna-Marie fears that her water will be cut off because she simply cannot afford to pay the bill.

“My daughter had to assist me with money to help pay a portion of the bill just to keep my water on,” she says.

Anna-Marie says she is not sure how she will survive if the meter is not fixed soon, because all her money goes towards keeping her water on at the moment.

“I was told that if an error is found my account will be credited, but how do I survive without any money because I was forced to pay so much already on a water bill?”

The metro has not yet commented on the meter or when it will be looked at.
