N17 appeals to the public for more water donations

The Netcare N17 Hospital's initiative, Drink 1 Donate 1, started off with a 2 000 litre water donation from a Boksburg company on Friday.

Hospital manager Andries Joubert is very happy at how quickly the initiative, which was started by the Netcare group last week, has taken off.

“We received a call from a company in Boksburg who wanted to help us with this and offered to donate 2 000l of water,” says Andries.

The water was delivered on Friday and hospital staff all jumped in to assist with the offloading of the truck.

Daryn Langley, who works at the company that donated the water, heard about the appeal after the Addie posted an article on Facebook.

“We heard about what the hospital is doing and felt we needed to assist where we could,” says Daryn.

The Netcare Foundation collected the water on Monday and will start distributing it to drought stricken areas around the country.

Andries says they will continue to collect water for about another two weeks and hope the public will continue with their contributions.

The hospital aims to collect at least 10 000 litres of water before the end of the initiative.

Anyone wanting to donate can do so by dropping off water at the hospital at any time of the day or night.

There will be a box situated in the reception area for residents to drop off the water and if anyone has large quantities of water they would like to donate, then the hospital will make arrangements to collect.
