Rapist on the run

On February 10, between 9am and noon, a 94-year-old woman was allegedly raped.

The Springs police spokesman, Capt Johannes Ramphora, says the incident took place while the old woman was busy ploughing with other ladies in Eastvale before the N12.

“The old woman was approached by a young man who was carrying a knife.

“The suspect hit the woman on the head, she collapsed and then he allegedly raped her and fled the scene.

“The other women did not see what had happened as they were all separated in various parts of the field,” says Ramphora.

When she regained consciousness, the old woman went to the Etwatwa Police Station to open a case of rape.

However, the case was referred to the Springs Police Station Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit .

Ramphora says anyone with any information can contact the Springs Police Station, Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit on 011 365 5700.
