Dal Fouche receives metro attention

A vandalised reservoir pump house is the cause of the water shortage in Dal Fouche, says Ekurhuleni Metro (Dal Fouche in water crisis, February 5).

Jacques Botha (45) had previously lodged complaints about the quality and quantity of water that residents were receiving in Dal Fouche. He said he believed that the water was not up to standard.

Jacques also alleged that the area was without water at least once a week.

Spokesman for the metro Themba Gadebe says, “The metro has been experiencing the water shortage problem, which is caused by the fact that a timer to fill up the tower was not filling up properly.”

Jacques, who was also concerned about the quality of the water, said, “We boil our water first before drinking it. Otherwise we buy bottled water.”

Themba says that the water quality is in order but officials will investigate the matter further.

“Unfortunately, the pump house at the reservoir was vandalised and the level control system was damaged,” adds Themba.

The metro is awaiting a response and clarity from the East Rand Water Care Association (ERWAT) to give timelines on when the system will be resolved.

Themba urges residents to call the Ekurhuleni metro call centre on 0860 543 000 to report any issues of water quality.
