“I am going to save the prize money until next year when I go to university,” says Elizabeth.

The creative writing competition has been running for four years and is sponsored by Hirsch’s Homestore.

Daniel Seleme, one of the facilitators of the competition, says the writers had to imagine themselves at 90 years old and sitting on front their porch looking back on their lives.

They had to work back from where they were at 90, to 80, 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 20 right down to the day they read about the online creative writing competition.

Daniel says the aim of the writing competition is to give school children the opportunity to let their talent shine.

Close to 200 entries were received and the winners were chosen via a judging panel,

Daniel says the competition has showcased great and unfounded talent in Gauteng.

“We urge all writers to continue following their dreams,” adds Daniel.
