Chisa (age unknown) and a friend went to a tavern for a few drinks when an argument erupted between him and another man at 6pm.
Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, says the deceased got involved in an argument with a community member who got scared and blew his whistle to draw the attention of the rest of the community.
When the community arrived at the scene they threw stones and bricks at Chisa while his friend ran away.
“The community poured petrol over Chisa’s body, put a tyre around his neck and set him alight,” says Ramphora.
When the police arrived on the scene they found the body burned beyond recognition.
Ramphora says Chisa’s friend was too scared to go back to the scene and only reported the incident to the police on Saturday.
Chisa’s body was taken to the Springs Mortuary in Geduld.
No arrests have been made.
A murder case was opened at the police station.
