Dal Fouche in water crisis

Jacques Botha (45), a Dal Fouche resident, says the current water problem has been on going for years and is seeking answers from the Ekurhuleni Metro.

He has lodged numerous complaints but no solution has been found for the ongoing situation.

Jacques claims that at least once a week there is a shortage of water in the Dal Fouche area and when residents finally get water, the water does not seem hygienic.

“We boil our water first before drinking it otherwise we buy bottled water,” says Jacques.

The Dal Fouche resident says the problem has been going on for as long as he has lived in the area, which is eight years.

He, his family and neighbours are concerned about the quality and quantity of water they are receiving.

Jacques says, “The water quality is deteriorating and has become a huge concern. The water smells horrible and if you bath you normally end up with a rash. We now shower in an attempt to avoid getting a rash.”

He claims inquiries made to metro regarding the situation go unanswered and he wants a permanent solution, not a temporary one.

“We also have very low water pressure which poses another problem for residents,” says Jacques.

Another resident, Charmaine Koukoularis (52), says there is no warning given to residents as to when there will be no water, it just happens and residents are left wondering when they will have water again.

Jacques believes the whole infrastructure needs to be replaced in order to rectify the situation the Dal Fouche residents are facing.

The metro is yet to respond regarding the water problem in Dal Fouche.
