Water drop off point in Selcourt

A Selcourt business is calling for donations of water for people in the drought-stricken Free State.

The low rainfall in many parts of South Africa has caused severe drought conditions and serious water shortages.

Five out of the nine provinces have recently been declared disaster areas.

David Roache, from the company, says among the harrowing stories about humans competing with animals for drinking water and farmers committing suicide, there have also been stories of hope with communities and individuals coming together to bring relief to those in dire need.

A large group of volunteers nationwide is setting up networks across towns, cities and villages for water donations, collection and transport to stricken areas.

“We are eager to show our support for this critical cause and have encouraged all staff members to donate as much water as they can,” says David.

In partnership with other businesses, Water in Nood Vrystaat distrik and NGO Wheel Well, they are committed to giving as much relief and help as possible.

The company urges all individuals, businesses, schools, churches and other organisations to follow their lead and donate water or their time as volunteers.

Those who wish to donate water can drop off their contributions daily from 7am to 9pm, at 17 Wedza Street, Selcourt.

For more information contact Anne Kleynhans on 083 360 4056.

“We are interested in donating water either by bottled water or filling up empty, clean bottles and clearly labelling each bottle as follows: DW – drinking water (for human consumption only) and TW – tap, rain or tank water (for livestock or sanitary use),” says David.
