Motorcyclist airlifted to hospital

The 42-year-old driver of a motorcycle was airlifted to a hospital in Johannesburg, after he sustained serious injuries during an accident on the Paul Kruger Highway, on Friday.

Chris Botha, Netcare911 spokesman, says it is alleged that the driver of the motorcycle swerved to avoid a collision with a car and the motorcycle hit the pavement.

An advanced life support paramedic and his team arrived at the scene and found the rider lying on the roadway with life-threatening injuries.

“After the injured man was stabilised, he was airlifted to a hospital in Johannesburg for the care he required,” says Botha.

EMPD officials Louis Els and Louwtjie du Toit responded to a motorcycle accident at 7pm, after a white Fiat Palio and a motorcycle collided.

Els says when they arrived at the scene they found paramedics from ER24 and Netcare911 at the scene.

The female driver of the car was not injured, but was traumatised.

A case of reckless and negligent driving was opened at the Springs Police Station, and the case will be investigated.

The road was blocked in both directions and the traffic was affected for two hours.
