Two killed in accident

Two people died on the N12 near Holfontein due to their wounds after three trucks collided, and two caught fire, at 9.30pm on Thursday.

Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesman, says two people have been killed and another sustained minor injuries.

ER24 paramedics, the Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Services along with various other emergency services, were on the scene to assess the injured people.

Meiring says when the paramedics arrived ont the scene, they found a small truck parked on the side of the highway while two other large trucks were lying in the middle of the road.

The paramedics found the lifeless body of a man a few metres from the truck.

Unfortunately the man had already succumbed to his multiple burn wounds.

“Nothing more could be done for the patient and he was declared dead on scene,” he says.

The paramedics found two other patients on the scene, one patient sustained serious injuries while the other person sustained minor injuries.

Paramedics treated the patients on the scene and provided the seriously injured patient with advanced life support interventions.

Unfortunately, after some time, the seriously injured patient died.

The person with minor injuries was treated and transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Meiring says the driver of the small truck was nowhere to be found.

According to eyewitnesses, the patients were all pulled from their vehicles.

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
