Business robbery fails

A New Era businessman was determined not to let his business in Newton Road be robbed by an armed man on Wednesday.

An armed robber was shot by the owner when he entered the business at 6pm, demanding cash.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, Springs police spokesman, says the business owner fired a shot and the injured man ran away but collapsed around the corner from the business.

Ramphora says the owner followed the suspect, found him bleeding on the side of the road and called the police.

When the police arrived, they found an injured suspect and recovered a 9mm pistol and a magazine with live ammunition.

Ramphora says when the ambulance arrived paramedics treated the suspect and transported him to a nearby hospital where he is under police guard.

A case of attempted business robbery was opened at the police station.
