Girl (7) aids with water transported to Free State

Lee-Ann Naude (7) was very pleased to assist with a water project to supply water for the communities of the drought-stricken Free State.

This province is experiencing a severe drought and is desperately in need of water.

She assisted her grandmother, Margaret Naude, by filling empty bottles with water.

Her helping hand was reached out immediately when her grandmother informed her that there are people suffering because they don’t have a drop of water.

Lee-Ann asked her grandmother what she was doing and if she can assist with filling the bottles.

“I like to help people who are suffering,” she says.

She believes she is Jesus’ special child because she was born at 24 weeks and weighed a mere 780g.

That is why she feels it is important to show how much she cares for others.

“Besides, helping my grandmother also brings me joy,” she says.

Margaret says she read on social media about somebody wanting to collect water to help the people in Bloemfontein and decided to help by getting the people of Springs involved.

The first load of 255 water bottles, collected over four days, was fetched last Saturday.

All the bottles had to be packed on a trailer to make transportation easier.

Lee-Ann helped to carry the heavy five litre bottles of water to the trailer.

Margaret says the five litre bottles were quite heavy, but that didn’t stop her granddaughter from trying.

“I was surprised at how quickly people reacted to the plea to supply water to the people in need,” she says.

She says it was only a once off project and that it was worth every effort to assist the organisers in Heidelberg.
